# Turn a tweet into a newsletter image

Email clients are the most hostile rendering environment left. Outlook ignores much of modern CSS, Gmail strips styles, and neither will run the JavaScript an embed needs. A plain image is the only thing that renders the same everywhere.

## How it works

1. Paste the link to the post.
1. Keep the 1.91:1 canvas and the near-white background.
1. Leave the resolution at 2x so the email stays light.
1. Download the PNG and embed it in your newsletter.

This page exports PNG on a solid background at a modest scale: no transparency, because several clients composite it to black, and no WebP, because Outlook still refuses it. The result is deliberately boring and works in every inbox.


## Questions

### Why not WebP in an email?

Outlook and several older clients do not render WebP. PNG and JPG are the only universally safe raster formats in email.

### Should the image have a transparent background?

No. Some clients composite transparency onto black, which looks broken. Always use a solid background in email.

### How wide should a newsletter image be?

Around 600 pixels displayed. Exporting at 2x gives a crisp result on Retina without a large file.
